Venue: Plaza, Art Tower Mito and the outer wall of Mito Keisei Department Store
*Meet at the upstairs of the ATM corridor. Please be casually dressed for the work.

Seedlings of asagao (morning glory) were planted with participants before the rainy season, and refreshing flowers were in bloom during the summer. Now it is time for harvest. How about harvesting together the seeds filled with memories of Mito, thinking of asatte (the day after tomorrow) or next year as well as other places where the same project is taken place? We plan to make huge Christmas wreaths with asagao vines.

In the morning, each team of participants makes soccer goals, ball and uniforms using corrugated cardboard and packing materials. In the afternoon, they enjoy playing the original mini-soccer game. Parents, children and friends can enjoy the game together.

Terunobu Fujimori: Architecture with Nature, and "ROJO"

ROJO Society

ROJO Society was formed in 1986 with key members, Genpei Akasegawa, Terunobu Fujimori, Shinbo Minami, Tetsuo Matsuda, and Joji Hayashi to observe, collect and appreciate everything in the surroundings from a manhole, chimney, store sign, bill to architectural pieces, and to find funny things on the streets aimlessly and unintentionally. In this project, a general meeting of Rojo Society is held to rediscover attractive aspects of Mito City through a lecture by the society member and the review of a rojo observation workshop held earlier in Mito.

Street Exhibition “Coffee & Art” Vol.5 OANA Kotoe

This exhibition project takes place in various coffee shops and restaurants located between Mito Station and the Contemporary Art Museum. Curators of the Contemporary Art Center made a selection of works by young artists for this project. This event not only provides a new space for introducing young artists but also connects the daily lives of locals with art and creates a vibrant flow of people in the city and the museum.

Activity to invigorate downtown Mito

“Flip Book Manga Shopping Streets in Mito”

Having walked around the central city area of Mito to find interesting buildings and objects, Yasuhiro Suzuki turns them into his “flip book manga” for the display at stores in the area.
*Note: It is scheduled that “Flip Book Manga” is performed at “Yasuhiro Suzuki’s lab of mitate (likening)” exhibition to be held from Saturday, September 13 to Monday, November 24 at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
