Radek Baborák


Born in 1976 in Pardubice, the Czech Republic, Baborák began horn lessons at age eight. Starting in 1989, he studied under Prof. Bedřich Tylšar at the Prague Conservatory, increasingly coming to distinguish himself by his budding genius. After winning competitions in Prague, Geneva, and Markneukirchen (Germany), he took the grand prize at the 1994 ARD International Music Competition in Munich. Those competitions enabled him to capture worldwide attention, rendering him praise in reviews for his “soft, beautiful timbre” and “perfect performances,” and even being pronounced as the “horn boy wonder.”
Since then, Baborák has carried out performances worldwide, primarily in Europe and the United States. He has garnered the deep trust of such renowned conductors as Seiji Ozawa, Daniel Barenboim, and Sir Simon Rattle, and has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, naturally, as well as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Bamberg Symphony, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, the Czech Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, to mention just several. His masterful technique and mature musicality are topics of broad discussion in concert halls worldwide, as well as at such music festivals as the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, the St. Petersburg White Nights Festival, the Prague Spring International Music Festival, the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival, and the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, all to which he has been regularly invited.
To date, he has appeared successively in performances as a horn soloist with the Czech Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Bamberg Symphony, and the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition, he has participated in such world-class orchestras from Japan as the Saito Kinen Orchestra and the Mito Chamber Orchestra (MCO). In the field of chamber music as well, he formed the Afflatus Quintet for wind instruments with fellow Czech musicians, as well as the Baborák Ensemble, and has appeared jointly in performances with such wonderful soloists as Yefim Bronfman, Sir András Schiff, Rudolf Buchbinder, Gerhard Oppitz, Julian Rachlin, Janine Jansen, Daishin Kashimoto, Emmanuel Pahud, Albrecht Mayer, François Leleux, Ian Bostridg, Thomas Quasthoff, and Waltraud Meier.
The great master of the horn world, Hermann Baumann, whom Baborák respects greatly, has described him with the following comments: “Radek Baborák takes us away in a festive atmosphere of the 18th century. His charming sound and the ease of his tone is an exceptional pleasure for the ear. The sensitivity and expressiveness of his performance let the horn sing. His interpretation yields natural power and naive simplicity…”
In recent years, moreover, Baborák has turned seriously to conducting, initiating a series of regular concerts and recordings with the Czech Sinfonietta, which he himself founded. After appearing as guest conductor at various venues in Europe, he made his conducting debut in Japan as well in 2013 at a regular concert of the Mito Chamber Orchestra (MCO), winning the acclaim of both the orchestra and audience alike. In 2015, he wowed listeners with his masterful performance of Reinhold Glière’s horn concerto with the New Japan Philharmonic, in which he also served as conductor. In the 2016-17 season, he was also invited to lead such Japanese ensembles as the Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, and the New Japan Philharmonic. Additionally, he has just been named principal guest conductor of the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, beginning in April 2018.

Martha Argerich


Martha Argerich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She began piano lessons at the age of five, studying with Vincenzo Scaramuzza, and displayed her genius. When she was eight years old, Argerich made her debut as a pianist playing piano concertos composed by Mozart and Beethoven. In 1955, she moved with her family to Europe where she continued her studies with Magaloff, Gulda, Mrs. Lipatti, Stefan Askenase and Michelangeli. In 1957, Argerich won the Busoni and Geneva International Competitions, and then she began to give concerts actively. In 1965, she won First Prize at the Chopin Competition, which established her indisputable prestige as a pianist in the world. Since then, Argerich has been one of the most prominent pianists in the world in both popularity and ability.
Argerich's repertoires range very widely to the extent they cover from Bach through Messiaen. She always has invitations from renowned orchestras, conductors and music festivals in Europe, Japan and the United States. Argerich has also made chamber music a significant part of her musical life. She regularly plays duos with violinist Gidon Kremer and cellist Mischa Maisky. Argerich also plays many pieces for two pianos and for four-hands with Nelson Freire and Alexandre Rabinovitch.
Since 1994, she has served as Honorary Music Director of the Philharmonia Hall at Beppu B-Con Plaza in Japan. In 1995, Argerich gave her first solo recital in ten years, which music fans around the world had waited for, at the "Beppu Argerich Concert '95". The Concert drew much attention throughout the world. In 1996, she was decorated with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (officier) by the Government of France. In 1997, Argerich was appointed as a member of Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In December the same year, she became an honorary foreign citizen of Oita Prefecture.
Since 1996 Argerich has assumed the post of General Director of Beppu Argerich Music Festival, and played with artists from around the world, including those from Asia. She is also much interested in giving advice to young musicians and held her own Master Class at the Music Festival. Her innovative approach to music making continues to have an impact on music in Japan and the world.
In September 1999 the Martha Argerich International Piano Competition was launched in Buenos Aires. In 2001 Argerich was awarded the 2nd Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli International Prize from Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli International Piano Festival of Brescia Bergamo. From November 2001 the Martha Argerich Festival, Buenos Aires was held under her general direction as a sister festival to the Beppu Argerich Music Festival. The Progetto Martha Argerich has been held at the Lugano Festival, Switzerland every year.
Argerich was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette from the Government of Japan, in commendation for her achievements through the Beppu Argerich Music Festival in 2005. In the same year, she also received the Praemium Imperiale from the Japan Art Association. In 2016 Argerich was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon by the Government of Japan. The decoration was awarded for the achievements of her music activities for forty-six years in Japan since her first visit, and for contributions to the development of music culture and promotion of friendship and goodwill in Japan through the activities of the Argerich Arts Foundation. In the same year she also received the Kennedy Center Honors which praises achievements made in the field of culture and arts in the U.S.
Her CDs have been released by numerous labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, EMI, RCA, Sony, Philips, and Teldec, and she has received the Grammy Awards, Le Monde de la Musique CHOC Award, Grammophon Awards the Artist of the Year, and German Record Critics' Annual Award, to name a just a few.

Serfei Nakariakov


Sergei Nakariakov has broken through more than a few of the perceived boundaries framing the world of the trumpet in classical music. Dubbed "The Paganini of the trumpet" by the Finnish press after a performance at the Korsholm Festival when he was only 13 years old, and in 1997 "Caruso of the Trumpet" by Musik und Theater, Sergei has developed a unique musical voice, which is, much more than a vehicle for astonishing virtuosity. His repertoire includes not only the entire range of original literature for the trumpet; but is continually expanding into broader territories, including many fascinating transcriptions, while he searches for ever new means of musical expression. At the same time, he has single-handedly brought the flugelhorn to prominence on the concert platform.

Born in Gorky in 1977, Sergei began to play the piano when he was six years old, but moved on to the trumpet, after a spine injury in 1986 curtailed his piano studies. In the early years, his father tirelessly sought various trumpet teachers, however Sergei pays tribute to the technical and musical gifts he has learned from his father, Mikhail Nakariakov, who has transcribed a large repertoire of classical concertos for the trumpet - and with whom he studied daily from the very beginning, and since 1995 exclusively!

From the age of ten Sergei started to perform with orchestras in major concert halls of the Soviet Union. In 1988, he got a diploma at a brass competition for adults. It became clear that in order to develop his carrier and to travel, he had to leave the Soviet Union. His hometown Nizhni Novgorod was a closed city! His family made the decision to move to Israel in order to give him the liberty to travel. In 1991 he enjoyed great success at the Ivo Pogorelich Festival in Bad Wishofen. In August of the same year he made his debut together with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra at the Salzburg Festival. One year later 1992 Sergei was a guest at the Schleswig - Holstein Musikfestival where he was awarded the "Prix Davidoff" . Since then he has appeared in many of the worlds leading centers of music, including the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the Lincoln Center in New York, the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He performs in festivals in most European Countries. He tours for several weeks each year in Japan and also appears as guest soloist in North America and Canada. He is collaborating with the world's most feted musicians, orchestras and conductors, most recently in Paris at the Theatre des Champs Elysees with the St.Petersburg Philharmonic and Youri Temirkanov. His international touring schedule includes performances in the foremost concert series all over the world, both with orchestra and in recital - accompanied by his sister pianist Vera Okhotnikova or Belgian pianist Maria Meerovitch.

In 2002 Sergei Nakariakov received the ECHO Klassik Award on ZDF as instrumentalist of the year from the German Phono-Academy.

In 2006 Sergei Nakariakov premiered 殿d absurdum� with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, a concerto specially composed for Sergei Nakariakov by J.Widmann, It features his unusual circular breathing capabilities. On Oct. 05. 2007 Sergei Nakariakov performed 殿d absurdum� with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Jiri Belohlavec at the Barbican in London.

In 2006 Sergei Nakariakov served as a member of the jury at the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2006 Competition at Newcastle Gateshead in England.

Sergei Nakariakov's discography with TELDEC CLASSICS INTERNATIONAL (WARNER) has drawn the most enthusiastic public and critical acclaim; and incorporates the most famous trumpet concertos as well as two recital albums of virtuoso music for trumpet by Bizet, Paganini, de Falla, Gershwin and Rimski-Korsakov with pianist Alexander Markovitch. The "ノl馮ie" recording, with pianist Vera Nakariakova, includes a selection of famous romantic works for voice and piano transcribed for trumpet and piano. "Concertos for Trumpet" features transcriptions for trumpet and fl・elhorn of string concertos by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Hoffmeister. The French magazine: "Repertoire" gave it the highest classification: "R10 - Coup de foudre". "NO LIMIT" was awarded the RTL d'Or. "From Moscow with love" features Russian Concertos. His most recent CD is Echoes from the past, with trumpet concertos originally written for bassoon and violoncello, written by Hummel, Mozart, Weber and Camille Saint-Saens. In Japan he appeared in a romantic film production impersonating a Russian trumpet player: Taiga-no itteki�. He also played in the soundtrack of the film.

Highpoint of the season 2009 / 2010 was Sergei Nakariakov's premiere of the trumpet concerto "PIETA" by Christian Jost dedicated to Chet Baker, with the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg in the Laeiszhalle November 22nd and 23rd.
