Shigenori KUDO

Shigenori KUDOBorn in Sapporo in 1954, Kudo studied flute at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique in Paris under Jean-Pierre Rampal, winning first prize in his graduating class of 1979. In 1978, he won the Paris International Flute Competition, and later placed first in the 1st Jean-Pierre Rampal International Flute Competition, which was held in 1980. Those awards catapulted him into the international limelight. Kudo's career as a soloist has taken him all over the world, having performed at 40 countries and more than 180 cities in such regions as Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East. In addition, he has performed frequently with orchestras worldwide in such countries as France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Britain, Norway, and the United States. Since 1983, he has also served as a judge at various international flute competitions, including the Jean-Rampal, Kobe, and Paris Flute Competitions. He has performed with the MCO and the Saito Kinen Orchestra ever since both ensembles were founded. Kudo currently educates future musicians at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris and the Tokyo College of Music.
