Radek BABORAKBorn in Czechoslovakia in 1976, Baborak began learning to play the French horn when he was eight years old. Starting in 1989, he pursued his studies at the Prague Conservatory under Bedrich Tylsar. In 1992, he placed third in the Prague Spring International Music Competition, and came in second in the 1993 Geneva International Music Competition (with no first prize being awarded that year). In 1994, he received first prize in the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, where he started to gain worldwide attention with plaudits as the "horn boy wonder." Baborak's repertoire spans a broad range, from baroque to contemporary music. He has performed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and other major orchestras, with many people praising his brilliant technique and mature sound despite his youth. To date he has belonged to the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic as a horn soloist. In addition, he has performed with several major orchestras worldwide, including the MCO and Saito Kinen Orchestra, and has also appeared with other orchestras as soloist. When he was a member of the CSO, he formed the woodwind Afflatus Quintet with several of his colleagues, and continues to perform chamber music with such renowned soloists as Emmanuel Pahud and Fran├žois Leleux.


Masayuki NAOI

Masayuki NAOIAfter studying at the Toho Gakuen School of Music, Naoi joined the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 1973. In 1975, he traveled to West Germany to study at the Cologne University of Music. After playing with the Lower Rhine Symphony Orchestra and the Bielefeld Philharmonic Orchestra, he joined the Beethoven Halle Orchestra of Bonn as a horn player in 1981. In 1988 he returned to Japan, and served as the principal horn player of the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra until 1999. Currently he teaches future generations of musicians as professor of the Toho Gakuen School of Music, also performing as a member of the Saito Kinen Orchestra and the Izumi Sinfonietta Osaka, among other ensembles.
