Seminar Talk by Toru Yasunaga and Ayumi Ichino (August 6-7)
Theme: "Thoughts on Music: As Japanese Performers Living in Europe"
This August, Toru Yasunaga and Ayumi Ichino will talk about what it means to play,
hear and teach music, with reference to the differences between the musical worlds of Berlin and Japan.
The talks will be divided into two parts, on the 6th and 7th,
and will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
before the public lessons given on those two days.
Profiles
Toru Yasunaga (violin)
Born in Fukuoka in 1951, Yasunaga graduated from the Toho Gakuen College of Music,
after which he moved to Europe and entered the Hochschle der Künste (HdK).
In 1977, he joined the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra as a first violinist,
becoming the concertmaster of the same organization in 1983.
Having toured widely throughout Europe and Japan as leader of the Berlin Philharmonic Solisten,
as well as a chamber musician and soloist, Yasunaga has garnered a high reputation.
Ayumi Ichino (piano)
Having studied the piano since age five,
Ichino won the Ataka Award while still a student at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
In 1978, she placed in the Maria Canals Competition held in Barcelona, Spain. The same year,
she started studying at the Hochschle der Künste (HdK).
After graduating from the same school in 1986 with the top score on the National Performance Examination,
she served as an instructor there between 1991 and 1996.
Ichino has gained much praise through her many concert appearances as a soloist and chamber musician.
