Ralph Towner Kazumi Watanabe

The strokes of Ralph Towner's guitar sound like the rays of dawn shining down upon the forest, still asleep amongst the morning dew. His arpeggios resemble the commotion of the water's surface after the outburst of a sudden rain shower. His quiet playing -- at times violent -- evokes favorite scenes from the past buried amidst the grassy mound of memory.

Towner changed the history of jazz guitar. He unites jazz and classic music into a single entity through the rainbow of harmonic overtones.
Jazz, when played on his guitar, seems to transcend jazz itself.

Besides his solo performance, Towner is joined by Kazumi Watanabe, another rare talent on the guitar. The concert at ATM will be the first time the two have played together before an audience. On July 15, come see for yourself how jazz can transcend jazz, and enjoy the different nuances of solo and duo performance.
