About the ACM (Acting Company Mito) Theatre
The duodecagonal (12-sided) ACM Theatre features a two-trap stage - surrounded by a three-tier audience section - that
can be transformed into a variety of sizes
and shapes depending on the performance.
The ACM Theatre Production Section,
in charge of production at the ACM Theatre,
puts on fully self-produced performances of
the Acting Company Mito (ACM),
the house theatrical troupe.
Besides ACM performances, other theatrical troupes are invited to
perform plays at the ACM Theatre. To help promote regional cultural activities, ACM Theatre puts on the
Theatre Festival MITO, with the participation of several troupes from Mito and vicinity.
It also sponsors the
Mito Yagai-geki (Mito Outdoor Theater),
with public participation, and runs the
Mito Children Theatre Academy
for local schoolchildren (through age 15) and the
Mito Citizens Theatre Academy
for people from the local community.
Besides these activities, the ACM Theatre annually stages both the
Hirakareru Koten
(Invitation to Japanese Classics) and the
Contemporary Dance Festival IN MITO.
The first event aims to rediscover the appeal of traditional Japanese performing arts, while the second aims to introduce the most stimulating examples of contemporary dance today (encouraging new works to be staged).
For further information on the activities of ACM Theatre, please refer to WALK bulletin (only Japanese-language edition available).
Several issues of the bulletin - which is developing into more than a simple
bulletin - have been published so far.
