Jenny Holzer's first large-scale solo exhibition in Japan.
For this exhibition, her English texts were translated into Japanese beforehand. Thus for the first time Japanese texts appeared on Untitled (from MOTHER AND CHILD), a work presented at Venice Biennale in 1990, and on Serpentine (from Various Series), a new winding electric billboard designed for Art Tower Mito's Entrance Hall.
Holding up "unnecessary death" as the theme of the exhibition, Holzer presented those works which she had produced by adopting viewpoints of war sufferers, raped people and those deemed incurable.
Stone benches, a cowhide house (Leather Hut [from LUSTMORD]), bones and photographs (Untitled [from LUSTMORD]) and a virtual reality environment - made of such diverse materials, her works showed a new development and appeal of her art.
