The High School Student Week’s free cafe event has taken place every spring since 2004. For “Publicness of the Art Center—Phase 1,” the ages of the cafe staff were broadened to make it a team of volunteers comprising everyone from high schoolers to senior citizens. Hiraku Cafe was a popular part of Phase 1 and will appear again in Phase 2, relocated to the Workshop Room and continuing to function as a place for different generations and purposes. The Cafe will have book publications related to the artists and other recommended books as well as sewing and handicrafts tools. It will also serve as the location for various activities, including tea parties and clubs. Visitors can spend time in the space however they like while helping themselves to tea and coffee. Cafe staff applicants are welcome at any point.

Club Activities

Launched as part of the High School Student Week program ongoing since 2007, these “club activities” are run annually by young people and local adults, artists, and curators based only on the rule that they need at least three participants. This exhibition features various activities about books and writing as well as clubs started in Phase 1. New club activities may also start during the exhibition.
