Pipilotti Rist: Your Eye Is My Island
Monday, September 20 – Sunday, October 17, 2021 10:00 – 18:00 (last admission: 17:30)

Pipilotti Rist (b. 1962, Grabs, St. Gallen, Switzerland) is a Swiss visual artist who explores experimental video expression since the 1980s. Based in Switzerland, Rist has been invited to present her work at museums and biennales around the world.
Rist’s video installations, which feature humorous snatches of images depicting a realm of vivid color, sensorially stimulating music and comforting spatial design, have attracted audiences of all ages from all over the world. This exhibition consists of about 40 works dealing with themes such as the body, gender, nature, and ecology. Functioning as a complete overview of Rist’s approximately 30-year career, the retrospective encompasses everything from the artist’s early short videos focusing on the female body and identity; the recent large-scale installations, which gently extols a symbiosis between nature and humans on a panoramic screen; living rooms like installation where videos coinhabit in miscellaneous goods and furniture; and the recirculating everyday objects into artworks that have been consistent in Rist’s practice since the 1980s.
This exhibition will provide an opportunity for viewers to gradually unravel the serious themes of contemporary society together with their own bodies through works that invite viewers to have a playful visual experience, through their own actions such as lying down on a bed or cushions and relaxing or sitting around a dinner table.
