Yuichiro Tamura ATM

November 2, 2024 - January 26, 2025 10:00 – 18:00 (last admission: 17:30)

Yuichiro Tamura has created works that start from existing imagery and objects. Media for his works widely differ such as photography, film, installation, performance, and theater. Based on various sources of inspiration from indigenous historic themes to familiar popular subjects, his works are characterized by multilayered narratives of intersecting reality and fiction, providing new interpretations to original histories and memories, and their connection to the contemporary.
In this exhibition, he presents a new work entitled ATM, which was inspired by the abbreviation of Art Tower Mito. Visitors to the exhibition are introduced to the world of Tamura’s works by short stories created by generative AI, which is aided by a vast amount of text written by the artist. Tamura, who has constructed works with narrative elements in forms of stories with narrations, tales, and episodes, says that what comes at the beginning of his work is to write text. In his new work ATM, he entrusted this task to generative AI and tried to weave new stories by tracing fragments from his past works.
