The exhibition presents the recent paintings of Aki Kondo (b. 1987), renowned for her dynamic brushstrokes and bold use of color. Since her debut in 2012, amidst the lingering impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake, Kondo has drawn inspiration from everyday objects, plants, figures from memory, children’s words, and profound themes such as life, death, and nature’s transcendent power. Through her art, she envisions a world where all beings are interconnected in the here and now. By confronting life’s unavoidable trials and embracing connections with others, Kondo illuminates the significance of humble, overlooked existences and inexplicable signs, awakening a deeper sensitivity in her viewers.
This exhibition explores the blessings of life, coexistence, compassion for those affected by global crises, and the visions of the world opened up by Aki Kondo’s art of “living” and “painting.”
