Hisako Kawamura
Piano
Born in Japan in 1981 and living in Germany since 1986, Kawamura was still a student at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover when she placed second in the Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD in Munich, later winning the first prize at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 2007, thereby capturing international attention. She made her Japanese debut in 2004 at a regular concert of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Kenichiro Kobayashi.
Since then, she has performed with various major Japanese orchestras, including the NHK Symphony Orchestra led by Jun Maerkl. She also played as soloist in a concert in Japan put on by the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra
of Moscow Radio, under Vladimir Fedoseyev, and that of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra (VSO), under Fabio Luisi. Recently, she appeared in performances in Japan by such ensembles as the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, directed by Marek Janowski, and the Russian National Orchestra, led by
Mikhail Vasilievich Pletnev. Her debut appearances in regular concerts by the NHK Symphony Orchestra under Sir Roger Norrington and the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa (OEK) have also drawn accolades from critics and audiences. Thereafter, she successively appeared with The Japan
Philharmonic Orchestra, The Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, and the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra. Last year, in 2013, she performed with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo, directed by Yuri Temirkanov, as well as
with The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra under Alexander Lazarev, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra led by Jiri Belohlavek, and the renowned cellist Clemens Hagen of the Hagen Quartett, among others, achieving great success each time. With 2014 marking the 10th anniversary of her debut, Kawamura
is continuing to expand the range of her activities both in Japan and abroad. Kawamura is the recipient of many awards, including the Nippon Steel Corporation Music Award, the Idemitsu Music Award, the Japan Chopin Society Award, the IUE Culture Award, the Agency of Cultural Affairs Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology New Artist Award selected by the Agency of Cultural Affairs, and the Hotel Okura Music Award. Her discography includes such CDs as "Notturno: The World of Chopin," "Chopin's Piano Sonata No.3 and Schumann's Humoreske," and Chopin's Ballades (RCA Red Seal).
