Now that almost seventy-five years have passed since the conclusion of the Second World War (known in Japan as the “Pacific War”), many of the memories of the war, along with the fire-bombing air raid on Mito shortly before the war’s end on August 2, 1945, are fading away. To keep those memories alive, and to pass them down to younger generations, the Peace Project is held jointly by the Mito City Peace Memorial Hall, the Mito City Museum and Art Tower Mito every year.
On August 17 this year, in the ATM Entrance Hall, a presentation will be made of two contest-winning essays about peace, written and read by elementary and/or junior high school students, together with a short organ performance.
