In commemoration of ATM’s 30th anniversary, ACM Theatre presents the debut performance in Japan of the dramatization of Hayao Miyazaki’s “Saihin Zensen” (“The front line of poverty”), from ‘Hayao Miyazaki no Zasso Noto’ . The setting for the story is Japan in the final days of the Second World War. Although most of the ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy have already been sunk, that has not stopped a fishing boat from being sent on a special mission as a surveillance vessel deep into the Pacific to follow the movements of the onrushing U.S. military, in a last-ditch act of desperation. On board the boat are some of the original crew, along with sailors from the navy. Will the men make it back safely from their dangerous mission to the front line at sea? This is a tale of men whose life is at stake.
