【OBITUARY】Seiji Ozawa, one of the greatest conductors of our time and the director of Art Tower Mito(ATM), has passed away at his home in Tokyo on 6 February 2024, at the age of 88.

Seiji Ozawa, one of the greatest conductors of our time and the director of Art Tower Mito(ATM), has passed away at his home in Tokyo on 6 February 2024, at the age of 88.

Ozawa has served as the musical advisor for the Mito Chamber Orchestra since ATM was founded in 1990.  After the passing of the first director, Hidekazu Yoshida, Ozawa assumed the position of director of ATM in April 2013.

His tenure as the leader of ATM was a period of great development for the Mito Chamber Orchestra, ACM Theatre and Contemporary Art Gallery.  He was also passionate about making music, theatre, and art more accessible to the citizens including young people, such as actively holding concerts for children and wind brass seminars.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for his artistic legacy and significant contributions to the Art Tower Mito.  May his soul rests in peace.
